Winter Hike Fri 29.12. – Fri 5.1. Kemihaara, Korvatunturi, Vongoiva, Tuntsa (110€)
It’s soon time for SOOPA’s traditional winter hike to Lapland! Registration for the hike is open now. The hike is organized in cooperation with Hydepakki.
This year we will be heading to Kemihaara and its surroundings in Eastern Lapland. Kemihaara Wilderness Area and the southern part of Urho Kekkonen National Park have various beautiful landscapes for skiing, and some cozy wilderness huts and saunas. We will leave from Oulu in the morning 29.12.2023 and return to Oulu in the evening 5.1.2024. The hike costs 110€, including bus transfer, and sauna and lunch at the end of the hike. There will be room for 48 people. Registration is open until 27.11. (or until the hike is full). The hike and SOOPA membership fee for the year 2024 must be paid at the time of registration. Registration for the hike is open 1.11.-27.11.
SOOPA will provide tents and maps for all groups. Other equipment such as skis can be rented from SOOPA. Please note that there is only a limited amount of equipment. Check the gear list before the registration and make sure that you can get all the needed gear for the hike.
Although the winter hike requires some hiking skills and the ability to adapt quickly to changing and demanding conditions, beginners are welcome as well! All you need is equipment, a good attitude and basic cross country skiing abilities (downhill skiing skills are not enough). All the people joining the hike will be divided into groups of 4-6 people so that everyone can be in a group with suitable pace and each group has enough previous hiking experience. Accommodation during the hike happens in tents or in reservable wilderness huts. Open wilderness huts can be used only if there is room and hut etiquette must be followed.
Preliminary schedule: The bus leaves from Oulu on Friday 29.12.2023 at 7:00. We aim to return to Oulu on Friday 5.1.2024 latest at 19:45.
If you haven’t participated in SOOPA hikes before or if you have questions about winter hiking, you should attend the information meeting regarding the hike on Monday 13.11. at 7pm. The meeting is held online in Google Meet.
